DECONSTRUCT/RECONSTRUCT INITIAL THOUGHTS

I’ve had a few worries about this project as I’ve never really liked the idea of up cycling old garments into something new due to the fact that most don’t aesthetically appeal to me. I've always had this preconception in my head that the whole concept of deconstructing an existing garment is quite constricting as you are limited to only the fabric used previously. However, from today's initial tasks of deconstruct illustrations and also draping exercises, I feel that those preconceptions have been altered positively.
Following the massive amount of tedious cutting out I had to do for the illustrations, I really enjoyed creating the illustrations. I'm really happy with all my outcomes and really took pleasure in the abstract nature of them. By doing this task first, I feel that it really freed my mind to truly experiment with the conventions of a garment.

Progressing on, I took this mind set forward to the draping tasks which allowed me to do so with a new approach to the process. This was one of my favourites from the session.

This was a completely new style of working for me as I'm not usually the first to take to working on the stand so freely. I actually loved it so much! This method will probably be my preferred medium of development for this project judging the success of todays tasks.
