PRINT DAY 1

BEAU SCARLETT-PITT 22/09/14

Today was the start of the print workshops, which I have eagerly anticipated as I have a major love of creating prints. We started off simply by creating minimalistic poka-dot repeats. We then played around with this idea by experimenting with different effects to alter this repeat and turn it into something more complex (see the image above). Prior to this workshop I knew how to do a repeat pattern, however it has opened my eyes to new ways of creating repeats, which are quicker and more efficient methods. Today we also learnt the importance of a good clean repeat, with no trapped lines or rubbish mirroring.

Next we were giving a image sample of a forget me not flower, which we could manipulate however we wished and construct a repeat from that. This was the first bit of freedom we were given to experiment with creating our own print. I immensely enjoyed this as it allowed me to apply my previous photoshop expertise to this simple repeat pattern brief and I really had fun with it!

Initially I did find this new method of repeat pattern hard to grasp as I was set in my old ways, but as I continued to use it, it made me more efficient in my print making which I will definitely be applying to future designs.
