CHANGE OF CONCEPT

BEAU SCARLETT-PITT 09/09/14

Looking through all my research that I had gathered so far and being really critical of the concept, I found that I wasn't inspired by it and it wasn't strong enough. This left me more confused and unclear about how to develop what I was exploring.

In light of this confusion, I decided to start anew to provide myself with the best possible opportunity to generate ideas that were original and that I understood and felt a stronger connection to. I looked back on the objects that I'd brought in on the first day and selected my favorites; the ring that my Nan gave to me for my 18th birthday, a photograph that I took of a corroded Cuban ceiling and my hand.

My ring is inevitably an attachment that is quite strong as it from a blood relative that I'm very fond of. By simply looking at the aesthetic of the ring and the reason as to why I'm so attached to it I came up with a concept almost instantly - 'Bloodline connections'. For this concept, I want to look into family connections that can be forged by objects for example; my ring. As this concept is very new, I will have to research into this idea more to expand my thinking and designing process.

For structure, I looked towards my drawing of my hand that I had completed on the first day and also the picture that I took of a ceiling in Cuba when I visited last year. I stared at both for quite a while and then came to the realization of their similarities. They both contain structural elements to do with the skeletal and the circulatory system. This is quite literally the case for my hand, but for the ceiling you can see that it's still the same idea just with a varied interpretation. They both have a likeliness to architectural blueprints which show that veins are the very basis of structure.

I now feel that I have a concept that I am inspired by and look forward to the development of this concept through my designs and research.
